Building an Amazon Price Monitoring System with Residential Proxies

Why residential is not optional here

Amazon blocks datacenter IPs brutally. You pull a few prices from a hosting IP and it is captchas at best, a banned IP range at worst, with the price API returning 503. Worse, Amazon shows different prices by country, so a datacenter IP jumping geographies gives you prices that are simply not real. I built an 800-SKU monitor on datacenter proxies first — captchas every few days, data full of holes. Swapping to residential proxies is what finally let it run clean for a month.

How to architect it

  1. Split endpoints by country: US prices from US household IPs, DE from German, do not mix
  2. Bind each crawl session to one sticky residential IP, do not rotate every request
  3. Parser layer extracts price, rank, and shipping; store it in a time-series store
  4. Alert layer pushes to Telegram when the price gap crosses your threshold

Traps I hit

  • Rate: residential IPs hate speed too — under 1 request/sec per IP with random gaps
  • Leaks: DNS and WebRTC must not expose your real location or the country will not match
  • Captcha: back off and rotate the IP, do not hammer it
  • Hidden fields: Amazon sometimes hides price in JSON, do not scrape only the HTML
A price monitor is only as trustworthy as its collection layer, not how pretty the parser is.

How to set up the proxies

Login-based monitoring uses sticky sessions so the same country and IP watch continuously; anonymous comparison can rotate, but keep a separate pool per country. ProxyHub residential covers 190+ countries, so picking IPs by country is easy, from $0.5/GB — small projects can run it too.

Free test, run it before you scale

FAQ

Why use residential proxies for Amazon price monitoring?

Amazon blocks datacenter IPs hard and shows geo-specific prices. Residential IPs from the right country give clean, believable data without constant captchas.

How many requests per IP is safe on Amazon?

Keep under 1 request per second per IP with random gaps, and back off on captcha instead of retrying hard.

Sticky or rotating for price monitoring?

Use sticky sessions for login-based or country-specific monitoring; rotate for anonymous collection but keep separate pools per country.
